Microgeneration - A Fad or the future

I’m a lecturer in Electrotechnology for a large College in Wiltshire and I’m writing a paper on Electrical Microgeneration.

Can anyone give me any pointers as to good, relevant places to gather information?

I need to know if Electrical Microgeneration as it stands has a future, is it just a ‘fad’ that the government is using to make it look as though they are making improvements to environmental issues or are they a real feasible source of home grown electricity.
